On Thursday 21st March at approximately 15.00 The
Police Treatment Centres (PTC) along with numerous other Police Organisations
were subject to a malware attach on its IT systems.
The PTC initiated its disaster recovery plans which involved
shutting down all of its servers immediately.
As part of the process, the
incident was reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) as a
precaution
Due to the scale of the attack the incident was reported to
both the National Crime Agency (NCA) and the National Cyber Crime Unit who are
continuing to investigate
The malware attack has been identified as a version of
“ransomware” where the intention was to encrypt our files and demand a ransom
for their release.
The disaster recovery plan worked and the PTC was able to
install its back up files and be operational within 48 hours and fully
operational within 72 hours with no loss of information.
The incident was
investigated by our IT provider and the national agencies and no personal
information was compromised.
The PTC, in light of this attack will review its systems but
we are content that no personal information was compromised and that we had
full IT systems with no loss of information within 72 hours.
Should you require further information please contact the PTC
by phone (01423 504448) or by email to DPO@thepolicetreatmentcentres.org
