Brand new gym equipment is now in place at St Andrews, thanks to the LIBOR grant.
A large proportion of the LIBOR grant has been allocated to purchasing brand new equipment to upgrade cardiovascular & resistance gym equipment that has become old & outdated at St Andrews. In the past the PTC has received reconditioned equipment but the LIBOR grant means that for the first time we are able to purchase brand new equipment.
The majority of officers attending the Police Treatment Centres do so to receive intensive physiotherapy treatment & use the rehabilitation gym as part of their personal programme. The upgrades mean that the PTC can continue to offer the highest level of police-specific treatment with the most up to date equipment & machines.
The PTC has also purchased two new elite types of equipment thanks to the grant – a Wattbike & two AlterG Antigravity treadmills. Developed in association with British Cycling and used by World and Olympic Champions, the Wattbike is the first factory calibrated indoor bike to deliver accurate, consistent performance data and technical feedback. The AlterG treadmills allow you to reduce gravity’s impact by selecting any weight between 20% and 100% of your body weight by 1% increments, meaning you can rehabilitate lower extremity injuries with less pain and less impact.
A new extension to the gym is currently underway to house new spin bikes. Spin bikes provide a low impact cardiovascular workout, suitable for people rehabilitating from an injury. The extension is due to be complete by the end of March.
