The Castlebrae closure during the Ryder Cup will allow vital funds to be raised for the Charity, enhancing and developing patient care and equipment offered to injured and ill police officers.
The Treatment centre in Auchterarder (Perthshire) will be closed for a one week period, 22-29 September 2014.
The Police Treatment Centres is a charity and has unfortunately over the last few years seen a noticeable drop in its income levels. The charity’s main source of income is from donations from serving officers, we do not receive any statutory funding. With officer numbers dropping across England and Wales this has an impact on our funding.
Due to the unique event that is the Ryder Cup, an opportunity has arisen with Ryder Cup Travel Services, to use the accommodation facilities at the Centre at an agreed sum.This figure is considerably lower than the £1million recently quoted in the media.
Gordon Dixon (Chair of the Board of Trustees), commented;
“
The charity is currently fundraising to redevelop and enhance the facility at Castlebrae. We are currently trying to raise a further £1million in order to commence with the first part of the development work and the figure agreed with the Ryder Cup could help go towards this ambitious target. If we had received the £1million recently quoted in some of the major papers last weekend, we would now be signing off this work to commence. We are still unfortunately a long way off , although working hard to try and raise these much needed funds.
I must stress patient care will not be compromised by this one week closure. Any urgent cases are being seen now or will be prioritised for the week the Centre re-opens, if travelling to the alternative centre is not an option.
We are still very much patient and care focused and this will always be our number one priority, however we must remember we are a charity and do need to fundraise and when opportunities such as this arise we need to embrace them.”
The Centre will reopen to patients and be operating as usual from Tuesday 30 September.
The Charity would also like to give any members of the media the opportunity to come and visit either one of the two Treatment Centres, to see first-hand the care and support that is given to injured and ill police officers.
